Billikens Blank Women's Soccer in Sunday Contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell racked up a career-high eight saves in the Missouri State women's soccer team's 3-0 loss to Saint Louis, Sunday afternoon at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
Missouri State kept Saint Louis in check early as Maxwell recorded her first save in the second minute of the match. After two minutes of back-and-forth action between the two squads, freshman Jacqueline Baetz fired MSU's first shot of the day but it flew into the hands of Saint Louis goalkeeper Mary Niehaus. Later in the fourth minute, senior Brooke Zimmerman took a stab at another MSU scoring opportunity, but came up just short.
Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute after the Billikens' Maddie Pokorny received a pass up the middle and snuck a shot into the bottomof the goal, just past the hands of Maxwell. The Bear defense stood firm for the rest of the half as Maxwell brought in a total of five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The Billikens struck again 28 seconds into the second half, netting their second goal of the match from five yards out. The Bears tried to respond as Jordan Eickelman, Ashley Coonfield, Kayleigh Putnam and Zimmerman all fired shots in efforts to cut the deficit, but the four were unable to put the ball in the goal.
Missouri State was inches away from scoring in the 68th minute when Mary Disidore took her only shot of the day. Fired off from 20 yards out, the senior's scoring attempt sailed just over the top of the goal. Saint Louis put the game out of reach with four minutes remaining, making it a 3-0 match off a shot that crept its way into the bottom right side of the net.
Falling to 2-4-0 on the season, Maxwell tallied eight saves and remains the only MSU goalkeeper to play on the pitch this season. Zimmerman led the squad with three of the Bears' 11 shots against Saint Louis, registering one shot on goal.
