The Missouri State volleyball team (6-3) makes its long-awaited home debut this weekend when it hosts the annual Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center. The Bears open with Chattanooga on Thursday at 7 p.m., play Washington State at 6 p.m. Friday, and take on Illinois and Tennessee State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
Thursday's match will mark MSU's latest home debut on the calendar since a Sept. 15 opener in 2001. The Bears only played five matches that season before the home opener compared to nine this season, which is the most before the first home match since playing 12 matches away from Springfield to begin the 1989 campaign.

The Opponents
Chattanooga is 7-4 on the season and is picked to finish third in the Southern Conference in 2017. The Mocs, who have won 52 matches since the beginning of the 2015 season, hit .197 as a team compared to .160 for opponents and average 12.95 kills, 1.26 aces, 18.41 digs and 1.91 blocks per set.
Washington State is 8-1 with a five-set home loss to Baylor as its only defeat. The Cougars are coming off a 22-12 season that ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and are receiving the No. 29 vote total in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. As a team, WSU hits .262 and limits opponents to .121 with averages of 12.81 kills, 1.26 aces, 12.81 digs and an NCAA-leading 3.47 blocks pet set.
Illinois is tied with Washington State at 29th in the AVCA rankings, and is 6-2 after weekend losses to No. 4 Stanford and Colorado. The Fighting Illini rank fourth nationally with a .332 attack efficiency and third with 3.44 digs per set, hold opponents to a .149 hitting percentage, and average 13.85 kills, 1.41 aces and 11.81 digs per set.
Tennessee State brings a 4-6 record into Springfield and is picked to finish eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. The Tigers own a .166 team hitting percentage compared to .227 for opponents and average 11.16 kills, 1.21 aces, 15.84 digs and 1.32 blocks per set.
latest home debut on the calendar since a Sept. 15 opener in 2001.

Series Histories
Missouri State is 2-0 against Chattanooga, earning sweeps in 1998 in South Carolina and 2007 in Chattanooga.
The Bears won their only meeting with Washington State by a 2-0 score in the 1977 AIAW National Tournament on the way to a seventh-place finish.
MSU is 4-3-1 all-time against Illinois, including a 3-2 win on Aug. 27 of last season in Champaign. The most recent meeting prior to that was a 3-0 Illinois win in the first round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament in Hammons Student Center.
Saturday will be the first volleyball meeting between the Bears and Tennessee State.
