SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State takes aim at its second Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championship crown this week as the seventh-seeded Bears open play with No. 2 Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. Friday in Normal, Ill.
Tournament History
The Bears have one MVC Team Tennis title in school history, winning in 2002. MSU has lost to Drake in the quarterfinal round each of the last two seasons.
MSU Notables
Missouri State is 6-16 overall and 1-6 in Missouri Valley Conference matches, earning the No. 7 seed out of nine teams for the MVC Tournament...MSU's victory at UNI on April 8 was the school's first MVC road win since resuming play in 2015...Freshman Alye Darter won six consecutive matches from Feb. 10-26, including five at the No. 1 singles spot, and boasts a winning record (9-8) at the top of the lineup...MSU owns an 13-9 record at No. 5 singles this season - its best mark at any position - spread among four different players...The Bears are 9-6 in their last 15 home matches...Darter (15) and sophomore Phoebe Boeschen (14) rank 1-2 among the Bears in singles wins this season.

The Bears are 12-18 versus SIU, losing all three meetings since rejoining the league. The Salukis claimed a 6-1 win in Carbondale on April 15, with Darter earning MSU's only point with a win at No. 1 singles.
