EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Missouri State's tennis team ran into a tough Evansville squad Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Purple Aces as the Bears battle for position in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.
MSU fell to 6-13 and 1-3 in MVC matches, while Evansville moved to 14-13 and 3-2 in league play, as six team's entered the penultimate weekend of conference play with MVC records between 2-1 and 1-2.
"Tough day today," observed MSU head coach
Mallory Weber after the match. "We came out too flat in doubles and Evansville has too much talent to gain that momentum back. I look forward to another chance tomorrow."
As Weber noted, the Aces cruised to a pair of 6-1 wins in doubles play before completing the sweep with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 match. UE added straight set wins in five of the six singles matches, though MSU sophomore
Phoebe Boeschen and Evansville's Nicoli Pereira went the distance in the third flight before Boeschen's personal five-match winning came to an end.
The Bears close their 10-match road trip Saturday at 1 p.m. at Southern Illinois.
