ST. LOUIS – Missouri State junior right-hander Kaitlin Beason
(Webb City, Mo.) was named MVC Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday, after her stellar weekend performances for the softball Bears.
Beason was 1-0 in two appearances on the week with a 0.58 ERA, including a near no-hitter in the Saturday's series opener at Indiana State. In that game, Beason took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a leadoff single, but was able to secure a 1-0 shutout win -- her seventh shutout of the season -- and pick up her 10th victory. She allowed just one earned run in two appearances at ISU, surrendering just 7 hits and 1 walk in 12.0 innings of work (0.67 WHIP) while opponents batted just .171 against her.
She improved her season ERA to 1.87, which now ranks second in the MVC, and stands at 10-7 overall.
Beason is the second MSU hurler to earn MVC Pitcher of the Week honors this season after classmate Holly Kelley
(Cypress, Texas) earned the honor on March 13. The Bears have now won five individual weekly awards this season from The Valley.
