Bears Rally for 4-3 Win at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri State won four of its six singles matches, including a come-from-behind three-set victory for freshman Alye Darter at the No. 1 spot, to earn a 4-3 dual win over IUPUI Saturday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club.
"This was a fantastic team effort today," head coach Mallory Weber said after her team improved its dual record to 3-3 on the season. "I'm proud of the entire group, but extremely impressed with Alye to come back in the No. 1 position and close it out."
After dropping two of three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0, the Bears roared out of the gate in singles play, with Alexia Meyer and Phoebe Boeschen losing a combined four games in a pair of straight set wins at the fifth and six spots.
IUPUI (0-8) evened the match with a win at No. 4 singles, MSU's Fati Khamissi put the Bears back up 3-2 with a sweep at the No. 3 spot, and the Jags pulled even once again with a No. 2 singles win.
With the match hanging in the balance after a tie-break loss in the first set, Darter earned a 7-5 win in the second to pull even at No. 1 singles, then won 6-0 in the third set against IUPUI's Sara Sherif to clinch the MSU win.
The Bears open a four-match home stand with a Feb. 17 doubleheader against UAPB (2 p.m.) and Southeast Missouri State (7 p.m.) at Cooper Tennis Complex.
