Bears Split Friday Duals at Cooper

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State played a pair of matches Friday at Cooper Tennis Complex, sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7-0 in the afternoon contest before falling 5-2 to Southeast Missouri State in the nightcap.
The Bears (4-4) cruised past UAPB (0-6), dropping only one game in doubles and taking all four singles matches in straight sets against the short-handed Golden Lions. Anelisse Torrico Moreno and Abbey Belote each won their singles matches without dropping a game at the Nos. 2 and 4 spots, respectively.
In the evening match, the Redhawks (4-2) swept doubles before a hotly-contested singles competition that included and pair of three-setters and four sets that went to a tie-break.Â
Freshman Alye Darter completed a 2-0 day at the No. 1 spot with a 6-4 win in the third set after splitting a pair of tie-breaks with Isabella Krupa. Phoebe Boeschen added a straight-set win in No. 5 singles, and Fati Khamissi went the distance at No. 3 singles before falling in a third set tie-break.
MSU continues its four-match home stand next week with showdowns against Creighton at 1 p.m. Friday and Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. Sunday.
