Lily Johnson was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week in volleyball for the fourth time this season and 13th in her career following her performance in home victories against Bradley and Illinois State last week.
The senior then picked up her ninth career Enterprise Bank MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week citation on Wednesday, combining her on-court performance with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average in cell and molecular biology.
Johnson averaged 4.44 kills, 5.33 digs and 5.28 points per set in two the MSU wins, hitting .252 with cumulative totals of 40 kills, 48 digs, four aces and five blocks as the Bears improved to 18-5 overall and 10-0 in MVC play while extending their league winning streak to 26 matches.
Friday against Bradley, the Wildwood, Mo., native finished with 22 kills and 21 digs, tying MSU's single-season record with her third 20/20 match of the year and becoming the second Bear with four such matches in a career. Saturday, Johnson lifted 27 digs and fired 18 kills, adding three aces and three blocks in a four-set victory over Illinois State.
The Bears, who sit on the cusp of the AVCA Top 25 in the No. 27 spot this week, head to Indiana this week for matches at Evansville on Friday and Indiana State on Saturday.
