SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State's
Lily Johnson was selected the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball Monday, earning the award for the second time in her career to go along with a league-record 11 MVC Player of Week citations.
Johnson averaged 4.44 digs and 0.89 blocks per set and helped the Bears hold opponents to a combined .045 attack efficiency in three home sweeps last week. She was also perfect in fielding 45 opposing serves, and tallied averages of 3.22 kills and 4.39 points per set on the offensive side with a .299 hitting percentage.
The senior outside hitter finished her week with 12 kills on .407 hitting Saturday against Evansville, adding 13 digs, three aces and three blocks. The Wildwood, Mo., native committed only one error and hit .294 with 11 kills, 20 digs and two blocks in Friday's sweep of Indiana State, notching her 2,000th career kill during the second set. Johnson began the week with six kills, seven digs and three blocks in MSU's Monday sweep of Loyola.
The Bears (13-5, 5-0 MVC) return to action Saturday with a 7 p.m. match at Southern Illinois (4-12, 3-2).
