LAWRENCE, Kan. – Missouri State tennis battled, but fell short in each of their matches on Thursday in the ITA Central Regional Championship presented by Oracle on October 19 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center and Sports Pavilion Lawrence.
"We played four very highly ranked opponents today and hung right with them," head women's tennis coach
Mallory Weber said. "While it's frustrating to not break through, it is encouraging to see us playing some of our best tennis of the fall."
Doubles action this morning sophomore
Alye Darter and freshman
Ellie Burger fought hard but were unable to get past the nine seed River Hart and Caroline Ryba of Minnesota, falling 8-6.
Junior
Phoebe Boeschen and senior
Anelisse Torrico Moreno dropped an 8-4 doubles decision to six seed Zoe Douglas and Elise Van Heuvelen of Iowa.
In the afternoon singles matches, Darter took on six seed Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva from Wichita State, falling 6-2, 6-3.
Torrico Moreno also went up against a Wichita State foe, dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to the eight seed Fatima Bizkukova.
Both Darter and Torrico Moreno will compete in the singles consolation bracket of the ITA Central Regional Championship tomorrow afternoon.
