SPRINGFIELD – Snapping an eight-match winning streak for the Bulldogs, the Missouri State women's soccer team (6-9-1, 2-2-1 MVC) forced a 0-0 draw against Drake, Tuesday evening at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.

"Getting the draw and taking two points away from the number one team in the league is big for this team," head coach Rob Brewer said. "Our defense showed excellent composure and a lot of toughness against a good Drake team. Brittney Robinson and Brooke Zimmerman did a great job leading the back line and Lexi Palacio had a good game in goal for us as well."

Palacio began what would be a busy night in the MSU goal in the sixth minute when Drake's Alyssa Brand fired off her second shot of the match. The ball went straight into the hands of Palacio, who picked up her first of a career-high 11 saves.

Senior Rachel Catrell was the first to register a shot for the Bears, but it sailed right into the hands of Drake goalkeeper Haley Morris. The Bears got two more shots off, but they were both reined in by the Bulldogs' keeper.

After four more saves from Palacio, the Bears and Bulldogs entered halftime with an even, 0-0 score. Returning from the break, Drake rattled off four, unsuccessful shots within the first 10 minutes of play. Zimmerman and Robinson had several key takeaways to help the Bears fight for control of the ball.

The Bears totaled seven shots in the second half, while Drake recorded nine, but couldn't find a way to put the ball into the net. With five seconds left in regulation play, Drake's Kasey Hurt launched a shot from 25-yards out but the attempt sailed high over the goal, prompting overtime action.

In the first overtime period, the Bears were unable to get a shot off against the Bulldogs as Drake controlled the ball and registered four shots. Palacio garnered two more saves in the 10-minute time period, holding Drake scoreless through 100 minutes.

Kayleigh Putnam and Jordan Eickelman were the two Bears to tally shots the second overtime period, but their efforts fell short as Missouri State still could not find the back of the net. Palacio's key save of the match came in the 105th minute as she leapt up to halt what would have been the game-ending goal. Neither team managed to score for the remainder of the period, resulting in a 0-0 draw and the Bears' first tie of the season.

Holding the league-leading Bulldogs scoreless through 110 minutes, Palacio picked up her second shutout of the season and moves to 1-3-1 overall. Her career-high 11 saves ties for second in the Valley and is the most saves recorded by any MSU goalkeeper this season.
