SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State University announced Saturday that one of its own -- 2013 graduate Callie Carroll -- will return to campus as the BearsFund's director of athletics development.
Â
Carroll, who earned her degree in broadcast journalism from MSU, will join
Kerry Dickerson's staff, starting Oct 16. Dickerson has been the senior director of athletics development since September of 2016.
Â
Carroll is an award-winning broadcast journalist and winner of the Silver Dome Award during her four-year professional career in television. She began at WXVT in Greenville, Miss., as a reporter, anchor and producer where she spent two years. She was part of the highly-acclaimed reality show "Breaking Greenville" during her tenure at WXVT. She then relocated to Carbondale, Ill., where she has served as the anchor of "News Three This Morning" on WSIL-TV for the past two years.
Â
"We are excited to have Callie a part of the team," said Dickerson. "She brings with her a ton of energy and passion for MSU which will enable her to be effective in her new role with our department."
Â
Carroll is originally from the Springfield area and was a volleyball and basketball standout at Logan-Rogersville High School. She was an all-state volleyball performer who originally began her college career at Drury University. After one year, she transferred to Missouri State University to focus on her academic work and career goals. She later served as a sales intern for Nelligan Sports Marketing (now Learfield) within MSU Athletics.
She enjoys watching sports, fishing, target shooting, and teaching self-defense classes.
Â
Carroll replaced Matt McDonough, who recently left MSU Athletics to join the Missouri State University Foundation as a director of development.
Â
Her hire is contingent upon final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next-scheduled meeting.
