Missouri State leads the all-time series against Bradley, 36-19, with the Bears winning the last three meetings, 8 of the last 10, and 10 of the last 12. MSU is also 7-1 all-time at JQH Arena against the Braves, with seven straight home wins.
Last year, the Bears swept the season series for the second time in three years. MSU won the first meeting, 61-42, holding the Braves nearly 13 minutes without a second-half field goal in a one-sided win in Peoria on Jan. 16.
Obediah Church had 13 points and 13 rebounds as one of eight freshman starters in the contest.
In the rematch in Springfield (Feb. 2), the Bears got 21 points off the bench from
Chris Kendrix and never trailed in a 77-71 win over BU.
Camyn Boone added 18 points and 8 rebounds for MSU in the team's 10th win.
Scouting the Braves
Second-year head coach Brian Wardle has five starters and seven lettermen back from 5-27 club that was 3-15 (9th) in the MVC standings.
This year, BU is 2-5 in road games, including a Valley win at Evansville. Leading the way for the Braves is freshman Darrell Brown (G, 5-10) who is averaging 12.3 points with 32 3-pointers and 54 assists. Juco transfer JoJo McGlaston (F, 6-5) is averaging 8.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and has 21 treys.
The Ten Count
- Missouri State is seeking its 100th win at JQH Arena, which is in its ninth season as home of the Bears. MSU is 99-43 (.697) all-time at JQH Arena, including a 7-1 mark against Bradley.
- Alize Johnson (Jr., Williamsport, Pa.) leads the MVC with 10.6 rebounds per game. He has recorded 10 or more rebounds in eight straight ball games and 14 times overall this season with a league-best 11 double-doubles. He ranks No. 5 nationally in total rebounds (212), No. 8 in double-doubles (11) and No. 15 in rebounds per game.
- Dequon Miller (Sr., Charleston, W.Va.) is coming off a career-high 24-point effort at Indiana State and has scored in double figures in six of seven MVC games this season. He is averaging 15.0 points per game vs. Valley foes.
- Jordan Martin (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) is 5 pts. away from 100 for his career & 3 rebounds shy of his 2015-16 total (42).
- With 172 treys, the Bears have surpassed their season 3-point totals from the last two seasons. MSU has knocked down 200 or more threes seven times, most recently in 2013-14, with the 2009-10 team hitting a record 252 (7.0).
- The Bears have not been out-rebounded in 8 games and are now 13-1 when out-rebounding their opponents.
- Missouri State has 11 different players averaging 9.0 minutes per game or more -- nine of whom have started. The Bears also have five players with 20 or more 3-pointers, just two shy of the club record (7) set in 2013-14.
- During MSU's Division I era, only Lee Campbell (18 in 1989-90) and Mike Wallace (14 in 2001-02) have posted more double-doubles in a season than Johnson (11). The program record is 23 by Curtis Perry in 1969-70.
- Jarred Dixon (So., Kansas City, Mo.) needs just 10 points to reach 400 for his career (50 games).
- Obediah Church (So., Springfield, Ill.) continues to lead the MVC in blocked shots per game (2.5), which also ranks 20th nationally. He has at least one rejection in 26 of his last 27 games, and his 45 blocks this season is just five shy of his season total of 50 from his freshman campaign.
