Bears Off to Tough Start at Conference Challenge


First-Round Results

The Missouri State women's golf team got off to a tough start Monday (Sept. 26) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo. The Bears shot 329 in the opening round at Red Sky Ranch Golf Club and sit in last place in the 18-team field.

San Diego State jumped out to the first-round lead with a 287, four better than second place Pepperdine. Tennessee is third with 293, while Old Dominion and Denver round out the top five with 298.

Sophomore Rachel Johnson led the way for MSU with an eight-over-par 80, one better than senior Lindsey Eisenreich and her 81. Verena Gimmy and Ashley Childers each had 84, and Ryan Pate 85.

The Bears will begin their second of three tournament rounds at 11;30 a.m. Mountain time Tuesday.
