SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Senior
Liz Young recorded her third goal of the season here Monday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Missouri State field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to the visiting Pacific Tigers.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring in the first minute of the Bear's third consecutive home match. Ten minutes later, senior goalkeeper
Megan Drew recorded her first save of the afternoon on a huge diving effort to prevent the Tigers from furthering their lead.
Pacific scored again in the 18
th minute off a shot from the right side before Missouri State would take its first shot of the match in the 29
th minute off a corner play.
Missouri State lined up for a corner play when senior
Liz Young fired the first shot for the Bears, resulting in a blocked shot. The Bears earned two more corners but came up short, trailing the Tigers 2-0 at the half.
Forty-three seconds into the second half, Pacific netted another goal to make it a 3-0 match.
In the 55
th minute,
Liz Young received a pass from
Andrea Soler Codina off a corner and found the back of the cage to put the Bears on the board. Young, who scored only one goal last season, recorded her third goal of the season.
With seven minutes remaining in the match, Pacific put up back-to-back goals to extend their lead to 5-1.
In her first full match of the season, Drew finished the affair with a season-high, eight saves off 13 shots on goal. The senior now has 105 minutes in the cage this season.
