SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Sophomore
Feli Heinzel recorded a career-high 10 saves in the Missouri State field hockey team's 2-1 overtime loss against the UC Davis Aggies Saturday, Sept. 24.
Missouri State scored right out of the gate when junior forward
Daelynn De Mello received a pass from
Bianca Mills and netted her first goal of the season in the first minute of the match. Eleven minutes later, De Mello took the Bears' second shot of the game but would miss just over the goal.
The Bears owned a 1-0 lead going into the second half before Kathleen Humphries of UC Davis scored her second goal of the season in the 60
th minute to tie the game. With Missouri State unable to get a shot off in the remaining 10 minutes of the second half, the Bears and Aggies entered overtime tied at 1-1.
The Bears battled, but UC Davis's Lauren Mewes put the game away in the 78
th minute when she scored her first goal of the season from the left side off a corner play. UC Davis finished the game with a total of 13 corner plays while the Bears tallied just three.
The Aggies outshot the Bears 6-2 in the first half, 14-3 in the second and 2-0 in overtime, for a total of 22 shots to five.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Feli Heinzel's 10 saves is the first time a Bear has recorded 10 saves since Oct. 24, 2014. Heinzel (1-5) recorded four saves in the first period, five saves in the second and one in overtime to bring her total number of saves in the 2016 season to 32.

Feli Heinzel – Hinzel recorded a career-high 10 saves in the Bears' contest against UC Davis, bringing her total saves to 32 on the season. Heinzel is more than halfway to her total saves from the 2015 season (58).
