MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Missouri State extended its winning streak to seven matches Friday afternoon with a 25-15, 25-20, 26-24 victory over Milwaukee (6-4) in the first match of the Marquette Invitational inside the Al McGuire Center.
The Bears (9-3) hit .308 as a team, led by sophomore 
Cambree Villarreal landing six kills on eight swings - all in the third set - to help MSU to the comeback victory in the final period. 
Lily Johnson added 15 kills to surpass the 1,300 mark for her career with her 23rd consecutive match in double figures, tying Michelle Witzke for the second-longest streak in school history. 
Lynsey Wright chipped in eight kills, and 
Simone House and 
Ashley Ophoven each had seven. House finished with a season-high seven blocks as well.
Missouri State was in good position for the sweep with a 16-12 lead in the third set before the Panthers made things interesting. A 5-0 Milwaukee run put MSU in a 20-18 hole, and Johnson responded with two kills during a 3-0 run for a 21-20 advantage. The Panthers gained set point at 24-23 when Villarreal fired consecutive kills for a 25-24 match point chance, and 
Emily Butters cashed in with an MSU ace for the winner.
The Bears jumped ahead 7-3 early in the first set behind three kills from Ophoven and never looked back, hitting .421 as a team in the double-digit win. Ophoven finished with six kills and no errors, while House had five kills and two blocks.
MSU overcame a slow start to win the second set, grabbing its first lead during a 6-0 run that including two kills and a block from Wright for a 15-10 advantage. House then added four blocks during a stretch in which the Bears extended their lead from 15-11 to 21-12, as the team recorded six stuffs in the set to hold Milwaukee to a negative hitting percentage.
Butters and 
Daniele Messa shared high dig honors with 11 apiece, while Messa handed out 44 assists as the Bears owned leads of 50-34 in kills, 55-46 in digs, 9-6 in blocks and 3-2 in aces. The MSU defense limited the Panthers to a .101 attack efficiency.
MSU has a pair of matches on Saturday, facing Iowa State (6-3) at 11 a.m. and Marquette (7-2) at 7 p.m.
