The Missouri State women's golf team sits in third place of 15 teams after the first day of the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield. The Bears shot 308-303--611 in Monday's (Sept. 12) action at Twin Oaks Country Club and are 12 shots off the pace heading into Tuesday's final round.

UTEP has the lead in the team race after posting 301-298--599, ten better than South Dakota State, which had 301-308-609, two better than the Bears. Oral Roberts is fourth with 614, followed by ULM (618), Little Rock and Western Illinois (619), South Dakota and Arkansas State (625), Oklahoma City (627), Illinois State and William Woods (631), Omaha (637), Creighton (641) and Drury (677).

Individually, junior Verena Gimmy and sophomore Ashley Childers led the way for Missouri State, each firing 76-76--152, which places them in a tie for 10th. Senior Lindsey Eisenreich and sophomore Rachel Johnson are tied for 23rd after each carded 154 totals; Eisenreich had 76-78 and Johnson 81-73. Freshman Ryan Pate shot 80-79--159 and is tied for 46th.

Four Bears competed as individuals with Kiersten Prater and Sophie Sadaro in a tie for 77th. Prater shot 89-81 and Sadaro 84-86 for their 170 totals. Freshman Hanna Johnson posted 90-84--174 and is tied for 84th, while senior Caroline Boone shot 77 in the first round before being forced to withdraw due to injury. June Ting of UTEP and Brenna Lervick are tied for first after posting 145 totals, three over par on the par 71, 5966-yard Twin Oaks layout.

Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
