Basketball Bears Trounce Athletico Club Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas -- Missouri State knocked down 17 3-pointers and got 23 points and 15 rebounds from newcomer Alize Johnson to turn back the Athletico Club Bahamas team, 121-55, here Thursday in the Bears' second of three games on its 2016 foreign tour.

Johnson led six MSU players who scored in double figures with Jarred Dixon contributing 20 off the bench on 8-of-10 shooting, and Jarrid Rhodes securing a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Bears also got 15 points from Ryan Kreklow, 14 from Dequon Miller and 10 from Obediah Church.

Coach Paul Lusk's club held Athletico Club under 30 percent from the field while forcing 23 turnovers. ACB converted just 3-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc (.176).

Much like their 40-point win the previous night, Missouri State dominated on the glass, securing 68 rebounds and getting ample scoring opportunities behind its 25 offensive boards. The Bears out-rebounded their opponents by 35 and got double-figure caroms from three players, including 11 by Jordan Martin to complement performances by Johnson and Rhodes.

Missouri State never trailed in the contest and led 21-12 at the end of the first quarter before pushing ahead 51-29 at the intermission. The second half belonged exclusively to the tourists. Missouri State outscored ACB 36-10 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach and tacked on 34 points in the final quarter with the game in hand.

The Bears shot 51.2 percent from the field and converted 18-of-24 (.750) at the foul line with a dozen steals and 30 assists.

Athletico Club Bahamas had four players score in double figures, including 17 points from Adam Johnson and 11 points with 9 rebounds from reserve Denzel Jenoure. Johnson was named the All-Bahamian Brand Co-Preseason Player of the Year and was part of the Super 60 Showdown Bahamas event earlier this summer.

Missouri State wraps its 2016 foreign tour on Friday night when the Bears battle the CTG Knights at 5 p.m. (Central) as part of the Bahamas Summer of Thunder event.
