Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas – The Missouri State women's soccer team (0-1-0) relied on its defense to keep within striking distance of the No. 19 ranked host Texas Tech (2-0-0) in a 1-0 loss in Lubbock on Sunday night (Aug. 21). Junior goalkeeper
Evan Stamp stood tall in net, making six saves and allowing just a single goal against to the top-20 side.
"We had a chance at the end," said head coach
Rob Brewer. "Late in the game it's 1-0 and we hung in there and gave them a scare with two quality shots on goal.
Evan Stamp played very well in net for us against a good Texas Tech team."
Texas Tech found the back of the net in the 25th minute. A Red Raider attacker got the ball near the top-right side of the 18-yard box. She slotted a low roller to the back post that put the host side in front, 1-0.
The Red Raiders seemed in control most of the first half and out-shot the Bears 14-0 in the first 45 minutes. But MSU came out in the second half reinvigorated and found a groove late.
Sophomore
Brooke Prondzinski recorded the first MSU shot of the game and it sent the TTU keeper sprawling to make the save in the 82nd minute. Senior
Millie Kingsbury also made the Red Raiders keeper pounce on her shot less than a minute later, but the offensive pressure was too little, too late at TTU held on for the 1-0 win.
MSU heads to Kansas City on Wednesday (Aug. 24) for a contest with UMKC to close out a season-opening two game road trip. The Bears' home opener at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium is on August 26 against Little Rock. The 6:00 p.m. tilt versus the Trojans will be the first-ever production of
The Valley on ESPN3 for the MSU women's soccer team.
