Box Score SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State showed many of the ingredients necessary to meet its high expectations for the 2016 season Saturday evening at the annual Maroon and White Scrimmage inside Hammons Student Center.
The volleyball Bears played five sets with multiple lineups playing for each side, with the White Team prevailing 4-1 by set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 16-14.
MSU's highly-regarded freshmen class was well represented with
Paige Perry (14 kills and 12 digs) and
Daniele Messa (38 assists and 13 digs) each recording double-doubles, while
Laynie Dake added a team-high 10 blocks.
Among the Bears' veterans,
Lynsey Wright hit .345 with 14 kills,
Lauren Boone had 29 assists and 10 digs,
Tatum Marshall scooped a team-high 17 digs, and
Lily Johnson had 10 kills.  Â

Missouri State opens the 2016 season on Friday, Aug. 26 at 4:30 p.m. against Xavier in Champaign, Ill. The Bears also take on Arkansas and 14th-ranked Illinois in the Illini Classic on Aug. 27.Â
The Bears are picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference after finishing 24-11 last season and advancing to their eighth NCAA Tournament since 2003.
