SPRINGFIELDÂ -- Hammons Student Center will have a new look this season as Missouri State continues to improve the building inside and out to make it one of the premier volleyball facilities in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The public's first chance to see the improvements will be at the annual Maroon and White Scrimmage on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. Tours will be offered to see the changes, and opportunities to give towards the continued campaign to improve the building's atmosphere will be made available. A ceremony recognizing donors will take place Sept. 23 during MSU's Alumni Weekend, and the first section of new maroon seats will be unveiled at this time.
Maroon Seat Campaign
The signature change among all the renovations is the installation of more than 2,000 maroon seats in Hammons Student Center's lower bowl. The first section is scheduled to be installed by mid-September, with additional seats being replaced throughout the season.Â
The $200,000 project is being funded by private donations, with a remaining need of $50,000 to cover the cost of the seats and other changes in the building.
Additional Interior Improvements
Numerous cosmetic improvements are currently being made inside Hammons Student Center. The east ticket lobby includes new paint and MSU decor wrapping around the walls, as well as a new sign above the ticket window. Also in the lobby is an updated light board featuring Missouri State's seven All-Americans and other program greats. Once inside, fans will see a new panoramic image around the program booth, as well as banners depicting scenes from the program on the column in the arena's southeast corner. Additionally, an area near the entrance is available to take photos on an MSU volleyball backdrop. Lastly, the area outside the Bears' locker room received a facelift with new paint and MSU logos lining the hallway of the lower level.
Exterior Improvements
Outside Hammons Student Center, the eyes of MSU's logo greet visitors as they enter through the building's east doors underneath a new Missouri State volleyball sign, while new flags and bear logos will line the walkway between HSC and JQH Arena.Â
