SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Overnight rain coupled with shifts in both team's respective upcoming conference weekend series has prompted the cancellation of Wednesday's (April 27) game between the Missouri State Bears and the SIU Edwardsville Cougars. The game will not be made up.
MSU also has changed the schedule for this weekend's MVC series at Evansville. The Bears (17-27, 6-12) will face the Purple Aces (22-21, 10-10) in a doubleheader on Friday (April 29) beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Cooper Stadium. Weather permitting, the teams will close out the series on Saturday at noon.
Finally, the Bears and Shockers have finalized plans for the rescheduled series finale for 6:00 p.m. next Tuesday (May 3) at Wilkins Stadium in Kansas.
The Bears salvaged a game in the weekend series at Northern Iowa with a 9-8 victory on Sunday. Sophomore Madison Jones drove in a career-best four runs in the win. Junior Mary Stephens drove in three on her sixth home run of the season. It was the third home run in as many games for the Bears.
Due to all of the schedule changes, the Bears have seven MVC games remaining in the regular season, the next four on the road and the final three at home on May 7-8 versus Indiana State. MSU currently sits in ninth place in the Valley, but are just two and half games out of sixth.
