Final Results | All-Conference & Awards

CHICAGO -- Missouri State University rallied for a top-four team finish here Tuesday at the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championships, posting a final card of 320-297-305 -- 922 in the 10-team field.

It marked the Bears' seventh upper-division finish at the MVC Championship in the last eight years.

The Bears also had two individuals finish in the top 20, including fifth-place performer Stine Pettersen who finished eight strokes off the lead with scores of 77-73-72 -- 222 on the par 72 course at Harborside. Verena Gimmy tied for 20th place overall with scores of 82-74-75 -- 231. Both MSU players earned All-MVC honors for the second straight year, while the team extended its run of first-team all-conference selections to 14 straight seasons.

Coach Kevin Kane's troops needed back-to-back solid rounds on Monday and Tuesday to help nullify a rough start to the event on Sunday. MSU found itself at the bottom of the heap in 10th place after 18 holes. However, on Monday the Bears recorded the third-best round in the field with a 297 to improve to seventh place overall. Missouri State completed the rally Tuesday with an impressive 305 -- once again the third-best round of the day -- to finish in a solid fourth-place position.

Wichita State posted its third straight team title with a tournament record score of 884 and five individuals in the top 12 overall. Indiana State was 13 shots back with an 897, followed by Bradley in third place with a 902 total. Southern Illinois (926) followed the Bears in fifth place, while Loyola (929), Evansville (934), Illinois State (935), Northern Iowa (936) and Drake (955) rounded out the scoring.

Individually, WSU's Taryn Torgerson completed the 54 holes with a 2-under 74-69-71 -- 214 to edge Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry (215) by one stroke for medalist honors. Bradley's Danielle Lemek was close behind at 216, while Indiana State's Marissa Uradomo (219) and MSU's Pettersen (222) rounded out the top five.

Missouri State's other three competitors all posted scores in the 70s during the event with Caroline Boone finishing 25th with a score of 234. Megan Furnish tied for 30th with a 236, and Ashley Childers finished 44th with a final tally of 243. Childers was MSU's top performer on par-3 holes, averaging 3.08 to finish among the tournament's top 11 in that category. Meanwhile, Pettersen's 35 pars matched the seventh-best total in the field.
