CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Missouri State field hockey team was selected as a recipient of the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Monday, March 21.
The award recognizes Division I field hockey programs that achieved a minimum Team GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year.
The Bears were among 68 teams recognized by the NFHCA for the award, with American University serving as the leader among all Division I institutions with a Team GPA of 3.65. American was followed by Quinnipiac (3.61), Harvard (3.58), Bucknell (3.55) and Bryant (3.54).
Missouri State received the award for the third straight year and ninth time overall. The Bears were previously honored by the organization in 2011 and each year during a span from 2005-2009.
Previously, 13 MSU field hockey players were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, with five Bears - Patrice Ahl, Jessi Pope, Holly Scherer, Kimberleigh Eng and Charlie Redhead - all being selected as MAC Distinguished Scholars in December.
