Missouri State's Caroline Boone has been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the first time in her career. Boone led the Bears to a second-place finish at last week's Rio Verde Invitational, finishing third in a field of 96 players.

The junior from Wynne, Ark., fired a career-best even-par 72 in the opening round and followed with 74-73 the final two days for a 219 total, three over par, and also the best mark in her career. She finished just two strokes behind medalist Hanna Lee of Xavier.

Boone currently ranks 11th in the MVC with a 76.29 scoring average. She and her teammates will be back in action Monday-Tuesday (Mar. 7-8) at the Lady Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss.
