CONWAY, Ark. - The Missouri State women's tennis team wrapped up weekend play at the Hendrix Indoor Tennis Center by dropping a 7-0 dual to McNeese State Saturday.

McNeese State (6-4) took control early winning the doubles point, but Missouri State (1-7) battled and went to three sets in three singles matches.

At the No. 1 slot, MSU's Ema Turudija took the opening set from Klaudia Gawlik 6-3. However, Gawlik eventually earned the win with 6-3, 6-1 victories in the remaining two sets.

Two singles matches, at the No. 4 and No. 6 slots, were determined by third-set match tiebreakers.

Sarah Jurakova of McNeese State won the opening set 7-5 over the Bears' Miranda Poile at the No. 4 position, but Poile rebounded with a 6-3 second set. The two went back-and-forth in the match tiebreaker, but Jurakova edged Poile by a 10-8 score.

MSU's Phoebe Boeschen fell in her first set 6-2 to the Cowgirls' Charoline Erlandsson, but came back with a 6-2 second set of her own to force another match tiebreaker. Boeschen, however, was unable to overcome Erlandsson and was topped 10-4 in the final match of the dual.

The Cowgirls' Giovanna Fioretti, Julia Kral and Hannah Brett all earned straight set victories at Nos. 2, 3, and 5 singles, respectively.

"Singles (play) was very hard fought today," Bears head coach Mallory Weber said. "Three of the (singles) matches going three sets is definitely positive, but we still have to keep working to be mentally strong and close those matches out."

Missouri State concludes its nine-match road stretch with three duals over the span of three days next weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. match Friday, Feb. 19, versus the UT Arlington Mavericks in Texas.
