SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State hit a season-high .396 in winning its fourth consecutive match Saturday evening with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 Missouri Valley Conference sweep of visiting Loyola at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears (13-7, 4-2 MVC) hit .297 or better in each set, led by
Lynsey Wright's .556 figure with 12 kills against two errors on 18 swings.
Lily Johnson finished with 16 kills and 11 digs on a .364 attack efficiency, as MSU ended the match with 44 kills and eight errors on 91 attempts. Loyola (8-11, 3-3) had 27 kills and 19 errors, hitting .081 as the Bears held their second consecutive opponent below the .100 mark.
MSU put away the first set with the help of five Rambler errors during a 7-0 run for a 14-7 advantage. Wright kills marked either end of a 5-0 run that made the score 20-8 as the Bears had 13 kills and one error to hit .571 in the first period.
Missouri State's first lead of the second set came during a 5-0 run for a 10-6 advantage, and the Bears led by at least three points the rest of the way to go ahead two sets to none. MSU got off to a 5-0 start in the third set and never looked back, piling up 16 kills compared to eight for the Ramblers and leading by at least five points for the balance of the set after
Simone House's kill made it 8-3.
The Bears held a 45-34 lead in total digs and did not have an attack blocked for the first time since an Aug. 25, 2007 victory against Delaware State.
MSU closes its homestand at 7 p.m. Monday against Evansville (4-16, 0-7).
