SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving team returns home to Hammons Student Center to take on Drury University in the Bears' 'Duel in the Pool' Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.

Duel in the Pool
The Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving team will go head-to-head against the Drury Panthers, Saturday evening. The Bears competed against Drury twice last season, winning the first contest and dropping the second.

In the Bears' and Panther's first meeting on Oct. 16, 2015, the Missouri State men won by a score of 135-87 and the women took the dual 150-87. The Bears won 17 of the 26 events in which five MSU swimmers earned multiple-race victories. Dora Kiss led the way for the women, winning three individual events and setting season-bests in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free.

Uvis Kalnins and then-freshmen Minki Kang and Artur Osvath were the top performers for the men, winning two races apiece for the crew. Kalnins took the 200yd backstroke and 200yd free, Kang clinched the 1000yd free and 500yd free, while Osvath was victorious in the 200yd IM and 200yd breaststroke.

The two teams met again on Jan. 21, 2016 when Drury edged out Missouri State 112-111 (men's team) and 117-114 (women's team). It came down to the 200yd freestyle relay, the final event of the meet, when Drury out-touched both the men's and the women's squad to win by one and three points.

Bear Bites
The Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving team continue competition in the 2016 season after an affair at the Kansas Double Duel last weekend. The men's team downed North Dakota 242.5-108.5 for their first dual victory of the season while the women's team fell to Kansas 209-130 and North Dakota 198-154.

On the men's side, Osvath brought in four, individual victories in the 100yd fly (48.72), 100yd breast (55.90), 200yd breast (1:59.56) and 200yd IM (1:50). The sophomore also broke two Robinson Natatorium pool records in the 100yd fly, formerly held by Olympic Champion Ian Crocker, and Olympic Champion Brendon Hansen's record in the 200yd breast. The sophomore's time in the 100yd fly currently ranks first in the MAC and 28^th in the nation while his time in the 200yd breast ranks fourth in the nation as well as fourth in the MAC, meeting the B standard.

Other Bears who claimed first-place were Phillip Willett (400yd IM, 3:58.85), Minki Kang (500yd free, 4:36.27; 1000yd free, 9:25.39) Bryce Blattner (200yd back, 1:53.52), Thomas Heye (10yd back, 52:07) and Kacper Cwiek (200yd fly, 1:54.79).

Though the women fell to the Jayhawks and Fighting Hawks, they posted several top times over the weekend. Freshman Sarah Allegri was one of the Bear's top performers, earning her first two collegiate, individual victories in the 100yd back (57.29) and 200yd back (2:02.80).

Junior Sydney Zupan clinched the 100yd fly in 56.75 seconds while freshman Vikte Labanauskaite placed second (5:10.84) in the 500yd free. Labanauskaite and sophomore Brianna McCullough swam in their first 1000yd freestyle of the season, placing fourth and sixth in the event with McCullough setting a new personal record (10:50.31).
 
A Look At The Competition – Drury
The Drury Panthers have not competed since the Missouri Show-Me Showdown back on Oct. 7 where they placed seventh out of ten teams. The Panthers totaled 173 points, falling behind Saint Louis by 9.5 points.

Jun Han Kim, a freshman, was Drury's top swimmer, finishing second in the 100yd fly in 49.17 seconds. The men's 400yd free relay grabbed a third-place finish, posting a time of 3:07.71.

The Panthers will face Missouri State and Missouri a total of two times this season and will travel to Hawaii to race against the Rainbow Warriors and the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
