St. LOUIS -- For the second consecutive week and third time this season, Missouri State setter
Daniele Messa has been selected the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week in volleyball, the league office announced Monday. Messa's award is also the seventh weekly Valley honor collected by the volleyball Bears this season.
Messa averaged 12 assists and 2.91 digs per set while running an MSU offense that averaged 14.64 kills per set on .301 hitting in three victories.Â
The Bartlett, Ill., native dished out 37 assists and the Bears hit .378 in Monday's sweep of Evansville, and she matched a career high with 54 helpers to go along with 15 digs Friday at Illinois State. Messa finished the week with 41 assists and nine digs Saturday at Indiana State, guiding the Bears to a .394 attack efficiency in a sweep of the Sycamores.
The Bears (16-7, 7-2 MVC) have won their last seven matches and begin the second half of the conference season Friday at 7 p.m. at league-leading Wichita State (15-5, 8-1).
