Prodzinski Leads Soccer Bears to Valley Victory

Final Stats

SPRINGFIELD - The Missouri State women's soccer team (4-7-3, 1-2-1 MVC) defeated the Indiana State Sycamores (6-9-1, 1-2-1 MVC), 3-1, here Saturday in Missouri Valley Conference action.

Indiana State jumped on the board first, when Pam Silies put a shot just pass Missouri State keeper Evan Stamp's reach in the 21st minute. Maddie Orf and Katie wells picked up the assists on the quick goal for the Sycamores.

"There was some miscommunication on Indiana State's goal, but the team regrouped and sorted it out," commented head coach Rob Brewer. "We got a good goal by Brooke Prodzinski to even it out. Once we got there, we were feeling pretty good about it and a quick second goal was big to take into half time for the lead."

"A big difference was that we finished chances today," Brewer said. "We have been in games and we've had the opportunities, but we just didn't have the composure to finish."

The Bears evened the contest in the 29th minute, as Brooke Prodzinski headed her second goal of the season off a rebound from Ashley Coonfield's pass that hit the crossbar.

Missouri State kept the pressure on, picking up a second goal in the first half. Molly Brewer connected on a cross from Rachel Catrell in the 30th minute of action, helping Brewer collect her third goal of the season.

In the second half, the Indiana State offense pressed, but the MSU defense, led by Stamp, limited the Sycamores' chances. Stamp picked up four saves of Indiana State's five shots on goal as the Bears defense held them to 10 shots.

Prodzinski came up with the Bears' third goal of the match in the 87th minute to put the game away, pushing the pass from Brooke Zenner past Indiana State keeper Brittany San Roman. Prodzinski collected her third goal of the season, leading the Bears with three of her four shots on goal against the Sycamores.

Missouri State will play its final non-conference match on the season on Monday (Oct. 17) against Kansas State 6 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on MSU's Pink Game.
