IOWA CITY, Iowa - Missouri State's No. 1 singles player Ema Turudija won her first match of the spring, but Iowa proved to be too strong in its home opener as the Hawkeyes beat the Bears 6-1 and 4-0, respectively, in a women's tennis doubleheader Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center.

Turudija and Iowa's No. 1 Anastasia Reimchen battled into a third-set match tiebreaker after Turudija won the first set 7-6 (3), and Reimchen took the second 6-2. The Bears' No. 1 player eventually won the match tiebreaker, 10-6, for MSU's lone victory of the day.

Also highlighting the Bears' first match of the doubleheader was Miranda Poile. Playing at the No. 4 slot against the Hawkeyes' Natalie Looney, Poile dropped just one service point in a 7-5 first-set defeat. The two went toe-to-toe and went to tiebreaker in the second set, where Looney finished off the dual with a 7-5 win.

The remaining four singles and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches finished in Iowa straight sets victories, while Turudija and Poile's No. 1 doubles match against Iowa's Reimchen and Zoe Douglas was left unfinished.

Iowa (2-0) took control early in the second dual by sweeping Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and winning 6-3 at the No. 1 slot.

Faty Khamissi had MSU's top performance in the second dual of the day. She took her first set at No. 5 singles over the Hawkeyes' Taylor Tamblyn and was in the midst of her second set, but the match was left unfinished.

The Hawkeyes clinched the dual with victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles in straight sets.

"I'm really proud of how Ema was able to step up and finish her match against a very strong opponent," Bears head coach Mallory Weber said. "We competed hard on every court, so if everyone can learn from today and take away something positive, we will be ready to go for our match tomorrow."

Missouri State (0-4) continues weekend play by heading to Omaha, Nebraska, to face the Creighton Bluejays at Hanscom Tennis Center at 11 a.m. Sunday.
