SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Seven members of the Missouri State tennis team will be in action this weekend when the Bears compete in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championship hosted by Bradley starting on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Velasco Tennis Center in Springfield, Illinois.

"This is a really fun tournament," Bears head coach Mallory Weber said. "This is one of my favorite ones of the fall and I think the girls really enjoyed it last year as well. There will be more of a comfort level this year because they know what to expect going into it. We've been working hard and hopefully we'll see some of that hard work pay off this weekend."

Competing for the Bears at No. 1-7 singles includes in order senior Ema Turudija, freshman Faty Khamissi, sophomore Anelisse Torrico Moreno, junior Ekaterina Donetskova, senior Miranda Poile, freshman Phoebe Boeschen and sophomore Abbey Belote.

The doubles tandem of Turudija and Poile will serve as the Bears' No. 1 doubles team, Khamissi and Donetskova will team up at No. 2 doubles, while Torrico Moreno and Boeschen make up the MSU No. 3 doubles entry.

Tournament play among the eight tennis-playing MVC universities' student-athletes begins Friday at 9 a.m. CST with three quarterfinal flights of doubles action. The first round of singles will feature seven flights and takes place following doubles quarterfinal matchups on Friday, with singles consolation rounds finishing out the day.

Double back draw and semifinal matches will signify the start of play Saturday with the singles fifth-place contest and semifinals ending the second day of the Championship.

The final day of play begins with fifth-place, third-place and championship matches at all flights of doubles, followed by remaining singles flights' third- and first-place contests

"A lot can change from now until the spring," Weber said. "I think it helps us to see all the conference teams at least once. You get a little bit more comfortable with them, and then going into this spring, even if you're not playing the same person you've at least seen the team before. It can certainly help with your confidence level going into (the spring schedule)."

The tournament runs from Friday through Sunday, Oct. 4, with results being posted throughout the weekend to the Championship Central page at mvc-sports.com.
