Strong Start Propels Scarlet Knights Past Bears, 6-0

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Four different Scarlet Knights found the back of the net in the first 20 minutes of play to help lead Rutgers to an eventual 6-0 win over Missouri State Saturday, Sept. 19, at Iowa's Grant Field in college field hockey.

Rachel Yaney, Katie Champion, Nicole Imbriaco and Caitlin Nitschmann scored the first four goals for the Scarlet Knights. Imbriaco tallied her second goal of the game in the 26th minute and Devon Freshnock capped off Rutgers' scoring with a tally of her own in the 53rd minute.

Rutgers improved to 5-2 this season with Imbriaco leading the way with her two goals in the first half. Freshnock finished with three points behind a goal and an assist, while Alyssa Bull and Sofia Walia also earned assists for the Scarlet Knights.

MSU outshot Rutgers 3-2 in the second half despite the Scarlet Knights holding a 13-1 edge in the first half. Rutgers also ended the game with a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Missouri State (2-5) had four players - Sydney Richelieu, Holly Scherer, Andrea Soler Codina and Leah Reitmayer - register shots in the contest. Starting goalkeeper Feli Heinzel made two saves and Brynne Satre picked up her first defensive save of the season for the Bears.
