CONWAY, Ark. - The Missouri State women's tennis team won four of its singles matches at the UCA Tennis Courts Saturday, Sept. 19, in the final day of action at the Central Arkansas Invitational.
Phoebe Boeschen, Anelisse Torrico Moreno, Abbey Belote and Faty Khamissi all won a singles match to highlight the Bears' efforts.
Boeschen fell in her semifinal to Marli Van Heerden, but came back to take third place at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Harding's Jenny Bond.
Both Anelisse Torrico Moreno and Abbey Belote picked up victories in the consolation semifinals at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Torrico Moreno defeated Gabriella Alves 6-3, 6-3 while Belote earned a win by default over Anais Emelie of Southeast Missouri State 7-5, 3-1.
Faty Khamissi completed her appearance at the UCA Fall Tournament by winning her final matchup of the day in a third-set match tiebreaker 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-8 over Harding's Laura Golubic. She also lost a hard-fought match in her second match of the Invite, falling to SEMO's Mariya Kostyuk 6-1, 1-6, 14-12.
MSU's Ekaterina Donetskova also played in two matches, completing her final match by dropping only a service game in a 6-4, 7-6 (6) loss to Piper Huey of Harding.
In doubles play, Torrico Moreno and Boeschen lost in the No. 2 championship flight against Southern Illinois' Ana Sofia Cordero and Katie Fries, 8-5. Donetskova and Khamissi also lost their final match at the No. 1 position, 8-3, to Central Arkansas.
The Bears have two remaining tournaments this fall, with their next meet - the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships - taking place in Springfield, Illinois, from Oct. 2-4.
