IOWA CITY, Iowa - Missouri State finished eighth in the team race, but got standout efforts from freshman Ashley Childers and sophomore Stine Pettersen, who both turned in top 10 individual efforts, at the Diane Thomason Invitational here Sunday in MSU's first women's golf event of the 2015-16 season.

Host Iowa claimed the overall team title with a three-round score of 888, followed by Rutgers (906), Delaware (907), Harvard (908) and South Dakota State (921). Fellow Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State tied for sixth place with North Florida (923), just a stroke ahead of the Bears. Northern Illinois (934), Bradley (944), Boston University (948) and Bowling Green (953) rounded out the 12-team field.

In her first collegiate event, Childers turned in an 11-over par 227 to tie for 10th place in the field of 71 competitors. The Mount Vernon, Mo., native collected three birdies and nine pars over the final 18 holes to catch teammate Pettersen who finished with an identical score over the 54. Pettersen, last year's MVC Newcomer of the Year, shot an even-par 72 in the second round and matched par of 8 of her first 10 holes Sunday before settling in with a final-round 80 to share 10th-place honors.

MSU also got a 25th-place finish from senior Megan Furnish (+16), while sophomore Verena Gimmy tied for 49th (+22), and freshman Hailey Burgen (+37) tied for 69th.

For the tournament, MSU's five linksters combined for 21 birdies and 144 pars on the Finkbine Course in Iowa City.

Coach Kevin Kane's squad will now have a couple weeks to prepare for their second fall event, Sept. 28-29 in Columbia, Mo., at the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by Missouri.
