IOWA CITY - Sophomore Stine Pettersen led the way Saturday (Sept. 12) for the Missouri State women's golf team and enters Sunday's final round in fourth place at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Pettersen fired 75-72--147, three over par, and trails leader Jessica Ip of Iowa by eight shots, but is just two behind current runnerup Andrea Slane of Delaware, who's at one over par.
Host Iowa leads after the first day by the slimmest of margins after shooting 298-300--598, a shot better than Delaware (599) and two ahead of Harvard (600). Rutgers is fourth at 606, followed by the Bears and Wichita State, tied for fifth in the 12-team field. Both teams posted rounds of 312-300--612 in two trips around the par 72, 6158-yard layout at Finkbine Golf Course.
South Dakota State (614) is seventh, followed by North Florida (615), Bradley (623), Northern Illinois (624), Bowling Green State (631) and Boston University (638).
Bear freshman Ashley Childers, playing in her first collegiate tournament, is tied for seventh after shooting 78-72--150. Senior Megan Furnish was next for MSU and tied for 32nd overall after carding 80-76--156, while sophomore Verena Gimmy shot 79-80--159 and sits in a tie for 46th. Freshman Hailey Burgen posted 84-87--171 and is 70th.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
