ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State freshman outside hitter Ashley Ophoven was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Conference's first volleyball Freshman of the Week in 2015.

The Ozark, Mo., native averaged 2.90 kills on .317 hitting in three MSU wins, hitting above the .200 mark in each match. In Saturday's win over Western Michigan, the rookie swatted 14 kills and had one block. Ophoven hit .375 with eight kills in Saturday's sweep of Milwaukee, and provided a spark off the bench in the season opener with seven kills, one dig and one block in two sets against Furman.

Missouri State (3-0) hosts the annual Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center Sept. 4-5. The Bears open with Miami (Fla.) on Friday, and play Oral Roberts and Marquette on Saturday. Miami and Marquette each received votes in the AVCA Top 25 poll this week.
