Miller Named MSU Football Strength Coach

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State University Director of Athletics Kyle Moats announced the hiring Thursday of three full-time athletics personnel, including football strength and conditioning coach Jacob Miller.

Also announced Thursday, Cody Seidel will move from video coordinator to the role of director of basketball operations for coach Paul Lusk's squad, while Griffin Waller will join the basketball Bears as that team's strength coach.

All three new hires are currently on campus and ready to begin their assignments, pending final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next scheduled meeting.

Miller comes to Missouri State after spending the last six months as a graduate assistant at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he worked with the Ragin' Cajuns' football program. He coordinated the strength, conditioning and speed training for football at ULL as well as the hand-to-hand training for the offensive linemen. He also directed training programs for women's soccer and women's tennis in Lafayette.

Prior to his time at ULL, Miller spent a year as an Athletic Performance coach at Baylor University from January of 2014 to January of 2015 where he worked with football training, sports psychology and nutrition. During his time at Baylor, he also directed track and field workouts for the Bears in addition to women's golf, women's tennis, acrobatics and tumbling assignments. His time in Texas also included a year-and-a-half stint as assistant football strength and conditioning coach at Rice University in Houston (July 2012 to January 2014) and a summer strength and conditioning internship at Texas Tech University in 2012.

Originally from Gardner, Kan., he is a product of Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., where he earned his degree in Exercise Science in 2011. He was the recipient of the prestigious Bishop Scholarship and Boone Academic Scholarships at Baker where he spent the 2011-12 academic year as assistant offensive line coach and strength coach for football.  He is also working on his Masters in Kinesiology from Louisiana Lafayette.

Miller holds USA Weightlifting Level 1 and Level 2 certification as well as CSCS certification.
