KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri State women's golf team heads to the Kansas City Shootout, presented by Gary Crossley Ford, at Shoal Creek Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
The Bears are part of a 13-team field in the event, a group which includes Arkansas State, Creighton, Drake, Middle Tennessee State, UMKC, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, UALR, Western Michigan and Wichita State. Ten individuals from six schools round out the field of 75 golfers.
Play is slated for 8 a.m., shotgun starts both days on the 6,124-yard, Par-72 course, which is rated the No.-2 public course in Missouri, according to Golfweek.
Missouri State head coach Kevin Kane sees his team making steps forward as the Bears enter the final regular-season tournament leading the Missouri Valley Conference in team scoring average at 303.4.
"I feel like we've gotten better each week as the spring has progressed and I'm looking for more of that," he said. "I think we're gaining confidence each week and hope we can keep building on that, too."
The Bears will send out a lineup of freshmen Stine Pettersen and Verena Gimmy, junior Megan Furnish and seniors Megan Thompson and Chiara Citterio. Sophomore Caroline Boone will play as an individual.
Pettersen is second in the conference in individual stroke average at 75.2 in 20 rounds, while Gimmy is fifth in the league at 76.29. Coming off of a tie for fifth at UALR Tuesday, Thompson is sixth at 76.4. Furnish is 12th at 77.3 and Citterio is now 18th after her best first finish of the year, tying for 19th at 15-over 231.
Boone owns a 77.5 scoring average in 10 rounds this season, and last played in the Quail Run JV Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., where she shot an 18-over-par 160 in two rounds.
