McPherson Selected as MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

April 29, 2015

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the second time this year, Missouri State senior Rebecca McPherson has been tabbed as the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday (April 29). It is the fifth time this season that a Missouri State softball player has been bestowed with the league honor.

McPherson broke two Missouri State softball records last week. On Sunday, she cracked her 11th home run of the season, breaking the previous school record of 10 held by three other players. It was a two-run home run that snapped a 4-4 tie versus UNI and came in her last career at-bat at Killian Stadium.

Earlier in the week, it was McPherson's home run on Wednesday against Wichita State that broke the team single season mark. McPherson extended her team-best hitting streak to 15 games with hits in all five game last week. She hit .400 for the week with three home runs, five RBI, five runs scored while slugging 1.000. She also drew a pair of walks, had a sacrifice fly and successfully converted a sacrifice bunt.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. McPherson holds a cumulative 3.85 grade point average and is an exercise and movement science major at Missouri State.

Missouri State will travel to Carbondale, Ill., for a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday to conclude the regular season. The Bears have already secured a spot in next week's MVC Tournament which will take place in Wichita, Kan., on May 7-9.
