CHANDLER, Ariz. - A trio of Missouri State field hockey student-athletes picked up academic accolades from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Monday, March 16.
Juniors Kimberleigh Eng, Jessi Pope and Holly Scherer earned spots on the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Collegiate Scholars of Distinction list, an award given to student-athletes who achieved cumulative GPAs of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic year.
Pope (Stafford, Va.) earned a spot on the list for the third consecutive year, posting a 4.00 GPA. The psychology major played in all 18 games as a defender for the Bears in 2014, earning an assist in a Sept. 1 game at Villanova.
Both Eng and Scherer made repeat appearances on the NFHCA Scholars of Distinction list which featured 79 Division I field hockey student-athletes.
Eng (Woodbridge, Va.) is an advertising and promotion major with a cumulative 3.93 GPA. The junior midfielder appeared in every game for MSU in 2014, while also making 11 starts.
Scherer (F, Belmont, Ontario) is an administrative management major with a cumulative 3.96 GPA at MSU. The forward was the Bears' leader in goals (8), points (19) and shots (49).
The 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Squad will be released on Monday, March 23.
The Bears begin their spring exhibition schedule Saturday, March 22, in Fenton, Mo., with contests beginning at 9:45 a.m. against Saint Louis, Bellarmine and Lindenwood. Missouri State will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for two exhibition games before concluding its spring with two contests at Betty and Bobby Allison North Stadium on Saturday, April 11.
