ST. LOUIS - Missouri State junior Dequon Miller (G, Charleston, W.Va.) has been named Newcomer of the Week by the Missouri Valley Conference, the league announced today, after he scored a career-high 21 points to help lead the Bears past Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Miller finished 8-for-16 from the field en route to his game-high 21 points. He scored 6 points in the game's final 36.3 seconds to lead Missouri State to its first road win against a power five conference foe since 2006. The transfer from Motlow (Tenn.) College also knocked down three 3-pointers, snagged 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in the victory while scoring the game-winning shot with 7.3 seconds remaining.
He is MSU's first MVC Newcomer of the Week recipient since Austin Ruder earned the award as a freshman on Feb. 3, 2014.
Evansville's D.J. Balentine was named MVC Player of the Week in this week's announcement.
