Miller Earns MVC Newcomer Honors for Second Time

Dec. 14, 2015

ST. LOUIS - Missouri State junior guard Dequon Miller (Charleston, W.Va.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second straight Monday, the league announced today.

Miller averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists on the week for MSU while converting 8-of-11 free throws. He also knocked down three 3-pointers in the two-game stretch in becoming the first MSU player to win the league honor in back-to-back weeks since the program made its debut in the 2003-04 season.

The transfer from Motlow (Tenn.) College is just the sixth Missouri State player to win MVC Newcomer of the Week multiple times in the same season. Anthony Downing won the honor four times in 2011-12, Adam Leonard won it three times in 2009-10, Jarmar Gulley and Michael Bizoukas both won twice in 2011-12, and Blake Ahearn earned the distinction two times in 2003-04.

Miller, a 70-percent free throw shooter, is averaging 11.0 points and 3.4 assists per game in 9 appearances, all starts, for the Bears this season.

The Bears will cap a three-game home stand Wednesday at 7 p.m., when they entertain Oral Roberts in a rematch of the season opener in Tulsa. Tickets are available at MissouriStateBears.com/tickets or during regular hours at the MSU Athletics Box Office at JQH Arena and by phone at (417) 836-7678.
