Bears Win Third Straight, Beat Drake 3-0

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State won its third consecutive match Saturday evening, sweeping the visiting Drake Bulldogs by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 at Hammons Student Center.

The Bears (18-9, 9-5 Missouri Valley Conference) hit .293 in the match and finished with 65 digs and nine blocks to hold Drake (14-18, 5-10) to an .086 attack efficiency.

Missouri State overcame four early aces from the Bulldogs to lead 13-10 in the first set on a block by Kinsey Batten and Simone House, and held off a late DU charge by closing on a 4-0 run while notching 24 digs and four blocks in the period.

The Bears took the second-set lead for good at 3-2, and Lynsey Wright provided three kills during a 6-0 run to a 13-6 lead. Wright had seven kills on eight attempts in the set, and a late 5-0 run widened MSU's margin to 23-16.

Lily Johnson smashed five early kills in the third set as the Bears jumped ahead 9-1, and added an ace to make it 12-2. Drake closed to 15-11, but another Johnson kill sparked a 4-0 run that allowed MSU to coast to the win.

Johnson finished with 15 kills and 15 digs for her 18th double-double of the season, and Wright added 13 kills on .500 hitting. House matched a season high with seven blocks to go with eight kills. Emily Butters led all players with 16 digs, and Brianne Dixon added a career-high 15.

The Bears visit Bradley at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13.
