CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State volleyball player Lily Johnson has earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI First Team, it was announced Thursday (Nov. 5). As a first-team selection, Johnson automatically advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. She is one of eight sophomores nationally to earn first-team honors in Division I, and is the 12th player in school history to attain all-district status.
A sophomore from Wildwood, Mo., Johnson carries a 3.98 cumulative grade point average while studying cell and molecular biology. The outside hitter leads the Bears (16-9, 7-5 Missouri Valley Conference) and ranks second in the MVC in both kills (4.22) and points (4.68) per set, ranking in the top 40 in both categories as well. She also leads the Bears with 30 aces and is second on the club with 2.95 digs per set.
Already a two-time MVC Player of the Week and Scholar-Athlete of the Week this season, Johnson recently completed a school-record streak of 36 consecutive matches with at least 10 kills, and already ranks third in MSU history with 18 career matches with 20 or more kills, including 11 in 2015.
District VI includes schools from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
