CLEVELAND - Missouri State was well represented on the Field Hockey Academic All-Mid-American Conference team as the Bears had 13 student-athletes honored by the league on Thursday, Nov. 19.
MSU had the most amount of student-athletes recognized among the seven MAC field hockey teams, with 68 student-athletes total earning academic all-conference honors.
Bears selected to the Field Hockey Academic All-MAC Team include Patrice Ahl, Kimberleigh Eng, Jackie Eskue, Dominique Leyva, Cami Mullins, Jessi Pope, Charlie Redhead, Ruth Reid, Sydney Richelieu, Brynne Satre, Holly Scherer, Andrea Soler Codina and Liz Young.
Patrice Ahl, a senior from St. Albert, Alberta, played and started in all 18 games for the Bears this season. The defender finished the season with career highs in assists (4) and points (4). Defensively, Ahl didn't receive a caution during the entire season and picked up her second-career defensive save in MSU's matchup at nationally-ranked Wake Forest. Ahl was named a second team all-MAC selection for her performance and earned her third academic all-MAC honor of her career.
Kimberleigh Eng made 16 appearances for the Bears in her senior campaign. The Woodbridge, Virginia, native had three multi-shot performances during the season, including the Sept. 3 game at Davidson in which she helped seal MSU's first win of the season with her lone goal of the year. Eng had previously earned academic all-conference recognition the previous two seasons.
Senior Jackie Eskue made her second appearance on the academic all-conference team after starting in a career-high 13 games this past season. The defender appeared in all 18 contests for the Bears and scored MSU's first goal of the year versus Indiana on Aug. 28. Eskue received only one caution throughout the entire season for the Bears.
Dominique Leyva made a career-high 14 starts for Missouri State during her senior season. An Academic All-MAC selection for the third time, Leyva appeared in all 18 games for the Bears. The midfielder from San Diego received only one card during MSU's 2015 season.
Cami Mullins makes her second appearance on the academic all-conference team after playing in 12 of Missouri State's contests in 2015. A senior from Worthington, Ohio, Mullins notched her first goal as a Bear in a 5-4 overtime victory over Saint Louis on Sept. 17.
A senior from Stafford, Virginia, Jessi Pope started in all 18 games for the Bears this season. The defender set career highs in goals (1), assists (3), points (5) and shots (2) in 2015. Pope earned her first-career defensive save against nationally-ranked Wake Forest and wasn't given a card throughout the year. The Academic All-MAC selection is the third of her career.
A three-year captain, Charlie Redhead was selected to the academic all-conference team for the third time. A second-team all-conference honoree for the third season, Redhead appeared in all 18 contests and started in 17 for Missouri State. The Norfolk, England, native took a career-high 32 shots and tied a career-high mark in assists (2).
Ruth Reid earned her first selection to the Academic All-MAC team after appearing in 14 games for the Bears this season. A junior from St. Andrews, Scotland, Reid didn't receive a card playing on the defensive side of the pitch during the 2015 season.
Sydney Richelieu set career highs in goals (3), assists (3), points (9), shots (21) and shots on goal (12) during her senior season for the Bears. A three-time academic all-conference selection, Richelieu recorded her first multi-goal performance in MSU's 2-0 victory over Ohio in Springfield on Oct. 9. She also earned a multi-point performance with a goal and an assist in the Bears' 2-0 victory at Ball State on Oct. 24.
Brynne Satre earned her third academic all-conference selection after appearing in all 18 games, while making 16 starts for the Bears in 2015. The redshirt junior led the squad with a career-high defensive saves this past season. The Davis, California, native logged the second most amount of minutes played on the pitch among Bears players during the season.
A senior from Belmont, Ontario, Holly Scherer earned her third consecutive academic all-conference selection after leading the Bears in scoring for the second-straight year. The forward led MSU in goals (6), points (12), shots (46) and shots on goal (26). Scherer finished her MSU career in a tie for seventh all-time on the Missouri State scoring list with 58 career points.
Andrea Soler Codina makes her first appearance on the Academic All-MAC team after playing in all 18 of the Bears' games. The sophomore made 12 starts this year and tied for second on the team in goals (3) and third in shots (22). The forward from Spain scored in four contests for MSU, which included an eventual game-winning goal at Ball State on Oct. 24.
A redshirt junior from San Diego, Liz Young was previously named to the All-MAC First Team after starting in all 18 games for the Bears. The midfielder returned for her redshirt junior season after suffering a season-ending injury in the sixth game of the 2014 season. She averaged over 58 minutes of time on the pitch per game and tied for third on the team with 22 shots. It's her second selection to an academic all-conference team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
