Missouri State head women's golf coach Kevin Kane has announced the addition of three new players to his team for the 2016-17 season. The newest Bears are Hanna Johnson of Warrensburg, Mo.; Ryan Pate of Midland, Texas; and Sophia Sadaro of Peculiar, Mo.
"I'm extremely excited about this group and what they can bring to our team," said Kane, in his 14th season leading the Bears. "There's a lot of ability and potential in this trio and I expect they'll come in and make an immediate impact as student-athletes and teammates. I'm proud to have them as future Bears."
Johnson captured her sectional championship as a senior last month and helped lead her Warrensburg High team to conference, sectional and district titles and a third-place finish at the class 2 state tournament. She was an all-state performer as a junior after winning conference, sectional and district championships. She is ranked third among Missouri seniors by National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Pate won her regional title last spring as a junior after a fourth-place district finish. She was second at her regional as a junior and fourth her sophomore year for Greenwood High. She placed 13th at the state high school tournament as a junior and 12th her sophomore year. Pate also recorded six top-10 finishes on the Texas Junior Golf Tour last season.
Sadaro, ranked fifth in Missouri by NJGS, is a four-time all-conference and all-district performer, and two-time state qualifier. She was medalist at her conference championship as a senior at Ray-Pec High. Sadaro also qualified for the Optimist International Championship this past summer and is the school recordholder for best nine and 18-hole rounds.
The Bears won their last two tournaments of the recently-completed fall season, including the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial and the Little Rock Classic. They'll open the spring portion of the schedule February 26 at the Rio Verde (Ariz.) Invitational.
