Missouri State sophomores Verena Gimmy and Stine Pettersen have been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week after a strong showing earlier in the week at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
The pair tied for sixth place, shooting identical two-over par 218 scores, and leading the Bears to a fourth-place finish in the team race. Gimmy fired rounds of 74-72-72, while Pettersen carded 73-72-73. Coach Kevin Kane's Bears tallied rounds of 302-298-294--894 at the Country Club of Lincoln to finish just one stroke behind third-place Kansas (983) and four behind runner-up South Dakota State (890). Tournament champion Notre Dame dominated the 13-team field with a team score of 860.
Pettersen currently leads the Valley in scoring average at 73.00 and has placed in the top 10 in all three of the Bears' tournaments. Gimmy ranks seventh in the league with a 75.22 mark. This is the first career Golfer of the Week award for Gimmy, while it's the fourth overall and second straight for Pettersen.
The Bears are back in action Monday-Tuesday (Oct. 12-13), hosting the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks C.C. in Springfield.
