LINCOLN, Neb. - The Missouri State women's golf team is fourth of 13 teams after the first day at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. The Bears shot 302-298--600 Monday (Oct. 5) at the Country Club of Lincoln and are part of a scramble for second place after leader Notre Dame separated itself from the field with a strong afternoon round.
The Irish fired 297-280--577 and are 16 in front of host Nebraska, which posted 301-292--593. South Dakota State is another shot back at 594, followed by the Bears, then Kansas (601), UMKC (609), South Dakota (616), North Dakota State (622), Illinois State (627) and Creighton (631) rounding out the top 10.
MSU was led by the sophomore duo of Stine Pettersen and Verena Gimmy, who are both within four shots of the lead. Pettersen fired 73-72--145 and is tied for seventh, while Gimmy is 12th after shooting 74-72. Senior Megan Furnish and freshman Ashley Childers are tied for 32nd after each posted 155 totals; Furnish shot 77-78 and Childers 78-77. Freshman Fay Carpenter is tied for 39th after shooting 80-77--157.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
